What does 和 mean?
和 is usually read hé and means harmony, peace, together or and, depending on the sentence. In compounds it appears in 和平 (peace), 和谐 (harmony) and 和气 (a friendly, harmonious manner).
Why pronunciation matters
和 has multiple readings in Chinese, including hé, hè, huó, huò and hú in different words. A design that uses only the character does not need a pronunciation mark, but a phrase should be checked before it is printed or tattooed.
Is 和 suitable for a tattoo?
Yes. It is visually simple and works well at small to medium sizes. The danger is not usually the stroke count; it is choosing a phrase where 和 has a different reading or grammatical role than expected.
Design notes
Common mistakes
- Assuming 和 always means peace in every sentence.
- Building a longer phrase without checking its pronunciation.
- Choosing a decorative script that makes 和 look like a different character.
