What does 力 mean?
力 (lì) means strength, force, power or ability. It can describe physical force, mental effort, influence or capacity depending on the compound. In 力量 (lìliàng), it forms a general noun for strength or power. In 力气 (lìqi), it usually refers to physical strength. In 努力 (nǔlì), it contributes the sense of effort, while 能力 (nénglì) means ability.

力 is short and often functions as part of a larger word. 力量 is a complete modern noun for strength or power and can describe physical, social or emotional force. 力气 is more specifically physical strength and is common in everyday speech. A tattoo using the single character is concise, but a complete phrase may communicate a more exact meaning.
Other characters for strength
There is no single universal Chinese symbol for strength. 强 (qiáng) means strong or powerful; 勇 (yǒng) relates to courage; 毅 (yì) suggests resolve or determination; and 坚 (jiān) can mean firm or resolute. These characters overlap in some contexts but carry different tones and grammatical uses. Choose one only after comparing the intended meaning.
Is 力 suitable for a tattoo?
Yes. With only two strokes, 力 is highly legible and works well at a small or minimal scale. The simplicity is also its main risk: it can look like a generic mark without context and is easy to copy incorrectly when a designer changes the angle, hook or stroke order. Use a verified regular-script form and preserve the proportion of the two strokes.
