What does 永结同心 mean?
永结同心 (yǒng jié tóng xīn) is a traditional wedding expression meaning “to join hearts forever” or “to be of one heart forever.” 永 means forever, 结 means to tie or join, 同 means together or same, and 心 means heart.
Where it is used
The phrase is used on wedding invitations, decorations, gifts and calligraphy. It relates to the commitment between partners and is usually kept as a complete four-character set.
Design notes
The characters have different stroke counts, so a simple grid can look uneven. Keep an even optical baseline, give the lighter characters enough presence and preserve the order. A 2×2 or horizontal composition is usually clearer than a narrow column.
What it does not mean
It does not guarantee that a relationship will last or that two people will always agree. It is a blessing about commitment and shared intention.
Common mistakes
- Using it outside a romantic or marital context.
- Changing the order of the four characters.
- Letting decorative calligraphy hide the character 心.
